SUPPORT OUR ROTARY FOUNDATIONS FOR A YEAR OF ACTION AND IMPACT!

As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world.  Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.

Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world.  One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF).  The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF).  Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

The Art of Community Building - Leveraging the Social Impact of the Arts

May 1 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave

As our community undergoes rapid economic growth and increasing diversity, we face constant reminders that the benefits of this growth are not shared by all.  Homelessness, rising income inequality, race and gender issues, and an aging population are challenges we must continually address as we build a world-class community.

Since 1969, ArtsFund has promoted the arts in pursuit of such a community, where arts are accessible to all and valued as central and critical to a healthy society.  Sarah Sidman, an ArtsFund Vice President, will share findings from their pioneering Social Impact of the Arts Study and discuss ways we can harness the impact of the arts to advance community priorities and sustain a thriving, equitable society in our region.

Plus, members of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra will perform a piece from the Lullaby Project, where they work with Mary’s Place parents and children in crisis to create personal lullabies.

____________________________

Guests, visiting Rotarians, and members who are not on the meal plan can now purchase their lunch in advance. Online sales end the Friday before each luncheon.

If you miss the cutoff, guests can still register by contacting Mariah at mariah@seattlerotary.org
Members are still welcome to purchase their lunch at the door.

If you plan to bring a prospective member as a guest, please contact Caroline at caroline@seattlerotary.org.

Futurist Admiral Owens Addresses the US’s Role in a 2039 World

President Cindy Runger brought club member Paul Suzman to the stage to introduce the main speaker, retired Admiral Bill Owens. Paul mentioned that Admiral Owens, a native of North Dakota, is a former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, decorated war veteran, and business executive, who is currently co-authoring a book, which will be titled China and the US 2039: The End Game? Paul explained that Owens’s leadership was evident during the decade following the Cold War, which contributed directly to much of what today’s military does well.

Meet Derek Ruckman

I am proud to introduce Derek Ruckman to you.

Derek joined Rotary for three reasons.

Heather Fitzpatrick, his proposer, is the first.  Because he admires the work Wellspring does, Derek asked to join the board.  The first question Heather asked was “are you in Rotary?”  Literally.
