JASON WILSON: SUSTAINABILITY IN THE CULINARY WORLD
July 17 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave.
Chef Jason Wilson, Culinary Director for Fire & Vine Hospitality, is an innovator in modern cooking styles and a leader in fine dining, both locally and nationally. He is the proud recipient of the James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest, Food & Wine magazine’s Best New Chef and Puget Sound Business Journal’s40 under 40. Jason will be speaking about the importance of sustainability in the culinary world – from restaurants to events and our own tables at home.
Seattle 4’s new president grew up in Unalakleet, a small village on the eastern shore of the Bering Sea. Her neighbors “were caring, resourceful, and undaunted by challenges,” she said. “When I walked into Rotary 19 years ago, it was immediately apparent the Rotarians were just as welcoming, just as caring, and just as fearless. I felt at home. That is why I joined Seattle 4, and I’m still here today.”
It is my pleasure to introduce our newest member, Dennis Williams, who is a financial advisor with Edward Jones. He has been nominated by Craig Dawson and Skip Rowland and his classification is Financial Advising and Wealth Management.
Dennis grew up in Seattle and attended Western Washington University where he played on the tennis team. He was President of the Black Student Union for three years and graduated with a finance degree. He had an internship with Russell Investments for several years.
It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell to beloved Rotary member, polio prevention advocate, and friend Steve Crane who passed away on Thursday, June 27. If you would like to honor Steve, please send donations in his memory to End Polio, Rotary’s partnership to eradicate polio or to Rotarian Malaria Partners, Rotary’s partnership to eradicate malaria. Cards and notices of donations can be sent to:
8:30-11:00 am @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., Kent
Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
Meet fellow members, learn more about the club, and check off another item on your yellow badge checklist! Because the Rainier Club needs to prepare for our group, please get your ticket in advance.
Thursday, July 18
5:00 pm @ Mary Wagner's house on Mercer Island
Excited, engaged and eager Rotary members willing to mentor young Winners for Life students on Saturday afternoons for three hours during September 7 through November 16 (as many Saturdays as you can accommodate) are invited to attend this event and learn more.
Wednesday, July 24
6:15-8:00 pm @ the Women's University Club, 1105 6th Ave.
The Peacebuilder Committee invites you to attend a special film screening and discussion featuring Joshua Seftel, the filmmaker who tells the stories of remarkable Muslim-Americans in this Emmy-nominated film series. This event, moderated by Seattle's own Aneelah Afzali, Executive Director of the American Muslim Empowerment Network (AMEN), is sponsored by Rotary District 5030 Peacebuilders, World Without Hate, The City of Seattle Human Rights Commission and the Women’s University Club Foundation.
1:00-4:00pm @ Trent & Alex Mummery's Magnolia Home
At this potluck lunch sponsored by Rotary PeaceBuilders, you will hear an update on the Healthcare Alliance from project partner, Seattle Against Slavery, and other Rotarians who are participating in this effort. Our most recent strategy is focused on developing training and getting it adopted by our healthcare system.
On Wednesday, August 21, instead of our usual luncheon, Seattle 4 Rotary will host a special community discussion at Town Hall Seattle featuring speaker Jeff Robinson.
This event is open to the public, and members are encouraged to share it with anyone who may be interested in the subject.
Following the public presentation, Seattle 4 Rotary members are invited to attend an exclusive reception with Jeff Robinson featuring heavy appetizers and a no-host bar. Space is limited, so this event will only be open to members and one guest each. Members and their plus-one do not need to register for this event. Please make sure to bring your name badge for entry.
Additional guests and non-members can register for the public presentation through the link below. Tickets are $5 and free for youth. Tickets will sell out soon - if you plan to bring multiple guests, get your tickets today!
