Eduardo Peñalver, Speech on Campus
President Eduardo Peñalver is Seattle University’s 22nd president. Prior to being named Seattle U President, Peñalver served as the dean of Cornell University’s Law School from 2014 until 2021. Peñalver is a Rhodes Scholar and a professor of law who clerked for former U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
Miri Cypers, Regional Director for the Anti-Defamation League’s Pacific Northwest Office, was joined by her associate, Morgan Moon, who leads their online investigative research efforts provided sobering thoughts about hate, extremism, antisemitism, and racism in our state.
Rotarian Linda Thompson-Black would like to invite club members to assist with the UNCF's Portfolio Project by mentoring high school juniors and seniors as the prepare for life beyond graduation. For more information, please call Linda at 206-851-8178.

International District Tour

Our member Assunta Ng, Publisher of the Northwest Asian Weekly, will take us on a tour of the International District showing where Chinatown, Japan town and Little Saigon are. This is her Chinatown tour Part II. It will focus on Bruce Lee’s first kung fu schools and where his childhood movies in Hong Kong were shown in the early 1960s. The story of the Chinese Historic Chinatown Gate, the controversy of Sound Transit Stations in Chinatown, the conflicts between the young activists and business owners on new developments and homeless issues, and other landmarks will be featured in this tour.
Meet at Seattle Best Tea at 506 S. King St. at 4:45 p.m., ending at Tai Tung (655 South King Street, Seattle, WA 98104) for dinner and beverages. Dinner including tax, $30.

Community Harvest Program Saturday, October 22

Join Harvest Against Hunger and our partners (and graduated Harvest VISTA site!) with the Community Harvest program at Upper Valley MEND on Saturday, October 22nd to help pick apples in a Cashmere, WA orchard. Our goal is to pick more than 18,000 pounds of apples in one day!

Music4Life is a non-profit and project of Rotary District 5030 that distributes musical instruments to public school students in need.
We welcome any gently used musical instruments you wish to donate. They can be delivered directly to these local music stores that are now open: American Music in Phinney Ridge and Kennelly Keys Music in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Everett.
