Monthly Member Event with Community Impact Grant Finalists
Our February member evening event will feature food, drinks, socializing, and presentations from the top three SRSF $100,000 Community Impact Grant finalists, the Pike Place Market Food Access Program of the Pike Place Market Foundation, the Veteran Financial Education Project of Consumer Education & Training Services (CENTS), and Freedom Schools Summer Literacy Program from WA-BLOC.
The Association of Washington Business (AWB) www.awb.org is the state’s oldest and largest business association, focused on the present and future, of business and manufacturing growth across Washington. Often characterized as the state’s ‘chamber of commerce’, It is all hands-on deck when the Legislature is in session. AWB, president, Kris Johnson, made the trek from Olympia to Seattle #4 Rotary for Wednesday’s lunch at the Westin. He described priorities and how Legislation can have profound impacts on growth and development.
The 60-day session Legislators will adopt a supplemental budget and consider six initiatives that would impact on the state’s economy. “Our state’s budget went from $33B to $70B in the past ten years and as the unifying voice of business we advocate thoughtful discussions about tax policy,” he said, “that can stimulate growth by reducing the Business & Occupation tax, childcare B&O tax credit and oppose unnecessary tax increases.” The Legislature is expected to adjourn on March 7.
Please join us for a very special event on February 15th at the Rainier Club at 5:30 PM hosted by Rotary Club of Seattle's own Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF).
The top three finalists for the $100,000 Community Impact Grant award, CENTS, Pike Place Market Foundation, and RVC/WA-BLOC, will be presenting their grant projects to us at this event. You can see their grant applications and a grant finalist summary by CLICKING HERE.
This is your chance to be part of something BIG as we have not made a grant of this size in many years. Members of the Rotary Club of Seattle will select the final award winner via email and voting will be open for several days following the presentations.
