There's no better way to kick off Seafair than with a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make Seattle's signature summer festival happen.
At this week's Rotary Club of Seattle meeting, we'll welcome Rear Adm. Jonathan Townsend, Commander of Navy Region Northwest, whose leadership spans nearly three decades of service around the globe. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and veteran naval aviator, Admiral Townsend has commanded at every level—from maritime patrol squadrons deployed throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific, to major Navy installations across the country. Today, he oversees the Navy's operations throughout the Pacific Northwest, making him one of our region's most influential military leaders.
Joining him will be Emily Cantrell, President & CEO of Seafair, who is leading one of Seattle's most beloved traditions into its next chapter. Seafair now encompasses more than 30 community events that bring together over two million people each summer, making it one of the nation's largest community festivals.
We'll also hear from Vicky Hoyt, Seafair's longtime Chief Parade Marshal and one of the legendary volunteers whose passion and leadership have helped keep the festival running for decades.
Whether you're a lifelong Seafair fan, fascinated by military leadership, or simply curious about what it takes to organize one of the Northwest's most iconic celebrations, this promises to be an entertaining and informative program.

Join Us at Rising Star Elementary This Summer
School Connect Washington needs you. One of our six SRSF Local Service Committee grantees this year, School Connect is running the largest summer program of its kind in Seattle Public Schools: 140 students at Rising Star Elementary on Beacon Hill, and they could use Rotarians in the room.
In an effort to better inform membership of the health of the club, we will start posting member additions and resignations after each month's club board meeting. Please see below for our June/July report.

School Connect Washington needs you. One of our six SRSF Local Service Committee grantees this year, School Connect is running the largest summer program of its kind in Seattle Public Schools: 140 students at Rising Star Elementary on Beacon Hill, and they could use Rotarians in the room.
Serves to fulfill Rotary's mission of "advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace." The committee selects projects that positively impact the health, education, and welfare of less advantaged people in other countries, with a particular emphasis on youth. Actively works with clubs in our District and abroad to leverage — via matching grants — the amount of money available for a project. Members get involved through direct knowledge of the project or by volunteering. Prior focuses have included malaria projects in Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda; microcredit and water projects in India; de-mining projects in Vietnam and Lebanon; AIDS orphan support in South Africa and Ethiopia; education/literacy projects in Nepal, Chile, and Hungary; and more than a decade of wide-ranging projects in Russia.

Music4Life is a non-profit and project of Rotary District 5030 that distributes musical instruments to public school students in need.
We welcome any gently used musical instruments you wish to donate. They can be delivered directly to these local music stores that are now open: American Music in Phinney Ridge and Kennelly Keys Music in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Everett.
