What Every White Person Should Know About African Americans
Prominent trial and complex business litigation attorney James Williams serves as the Seattle Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie. James was named a 2019 “Power 100” business leader and influencer by the Puget Sound Business Journal. His highly educational presentation will discuss why African Americans are uniquely American, and share the most significant events in history that have fundamentally changed their lives in America.
We hope to see you at our next Happy Hour on October 15 with guest hosts from the Seattle City Rotaract, the young professionals club founded by Seattle 4 Rotary in 2015. Test your knowledge with fun trivia, get to know your fellow Rotary and Rotaract members in breakout rooms, and learn the secret to the ultimate millennial happy hour snack: the avocado toast.
Have you been waiting for an opportunity to lend a hand in a COVID-safe, socially distanced way? You are invited to help in harvesting thousands of pounds of apples from an orchard in Cashmere, WA (near Leavenworth) on Saturday, October 17th with Harvest Against Hunger (HAH).
Last year volunteers gleaned 23,000 pounds of apples. We'd like to double that amount this year - can you help us make that happen?
The glean is scheduled for 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and we need at least 40 volunteers to get the job done. HAH has partnered with local apple warehouses and Northwest Harvest to get picking bags, ladders, and bins for our volunteers, but ask that you plan to bring gloves, a water bottle, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing. And please be sure to wear a mask!

Volunteers Needed at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club
The Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club, under the leadership of Patrick Carter, has taken on the role of full-day academic support and childcare for the Seattle Public Schools. This means they need to ensure students are online and learning with their respective classrooms. What problem does online learning present? Without human touch and guidance, the students are having their share of struggles. Some of them still can’t read or are having problems with basic math. Unlike the kids who can stay at home, they don’t have a parent or guardian to step in and help them when they run into problems.
Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club needs volunteers to come down and help. The time slots 8:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 2:30 are available and all COVID-19 procedures are being followed. No reported cases have been identified during the past six months of operation at the club. Volunteers will need to complete a simple background check and follow the guidelines.
Learn more about the Rotary Boys & Girls Club ontheir website.
