Next Week's Meeting

Wednesday, August 24
Zoom Only
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Kerri Murray, ShelterBox

Kerri Murray will be discussing her work serving as President for the global disaster relief charity, ShelterBox USA.

Kerri has worked since 2009 in disaster relief, often serving on the front lines of disaster and conflict zones. Kerri is a member of the Montecito Rotary Club and has served for six years as Board President for GIRLS ROCK Santa Barbara, a nonprofit that empowers and builds self-esteem in young girls through music education.

Kerri has an 18-year-old daughter, Sofia, a singer/songwriter who appeared on the 2020 season of American Idol, and who has sung the National Anthem at many Rotary District Conferences.

Persistence & Optimism Pay Dividends

President Beth opened the meeting promptly at 12:30 PM as the fourth-oldest and one of the largest club’s in the Rotary system.   She acknowledged the passing of past Rotary president Bruce Walker, who lived his full life living the Rotary Four-Way Test.  Linda Rough and Ryan Bunbury, accompanied by Jevon Powell, delivered the day’s song by Bill Withers, ‘Lean on Me’.  Jaime Mendez provided the day’s inspiration, recognizing Rotarians who have ‘stepped up’ to invite at least one prospect to a meeting.  It takes our actions to inspire hope.  Anniversaries were recognized with another outstanding video produced by ED Caroline Bobanick, who will be leaving her position on August 31.  A search committee has been formed to seek a new ED.

Evidence of Polio Virus in U.S. Sewage of Concern

Recent reports out of New York City indicating the virus that causes paralytic polio has been found in sewage water is a  cause for concern to health officials and Rotarians who have fought tirelessly against its spread.
Rotary has spent
over 30 years
working to
eradicate polio
across the globe,
and will continue to
monitor the
situation closely.
Seattle Rotary
member Kirk
Greene offers this
advice from the CDC:  “If
traveling to areas that has
evidence of
polio, please notify
your doctor or
pharmacist and
consider a single, lifetime booster
of the polio vaccine."
