How We Built the Burke with Julie Stein

An unwavering commitment to “turning the museum inside-out” led the Burke Museum to build a radically transparent and accessible new facility. Observing visitors’ responses to behind-the-scenes tours sparked Executive Director, Julie K. Stein, and her team on a ten-year journey to a build a new facility—one that reveals Burke research and collections, and connects visitors to the staff and volunteers who use them to learn, generate knowledge, be inspired, experience joy,
and to heal.

The New Burke features 13 visible labs and workrooms integrated among six galleries, as well as play spaces for young learners and alcoves for flexible programming. These interwoven spaces and transparencies blur traditional lines of front and back-of- house to establish the Burke as a new kind of museum—and a whole new way to experience our world.

PLEASE ASK FOR HELP!

Are you a member and at-risk for the coronavirus and would like help with grocery shopping, picking up pet supplies, or anything else that could put you at risk? There are lots of Rotary members who want to help and keep you safe.

All you have to do is:
  1. Complete the form request which has four questions:
    1. Name
    2. Phone number
    3. What you need help with (i.e. groceries)
    4. Your neighborhood (so volunteers can choose requests that are most convenient for them)
Once you submit the request, volunteers will receive an email and someone will contact you in a timely manner to lend you a hand.
