Reuniting the American Spirit and Healing our National Pain
Regardless of your hopes for election day outcomes, we all can agree our country is facing a crisis of spirit that has been building for decades. This crisis has left us starving for purpose, for courage, for connection, for each other. Now is the time to remember what we have in common and commit to uniting in a shared purpose.
It’s the tallest aspiration imaginable – a vision of mutual respect, solutions that transcend tired debates and old divides, and universal belonging – and the greatest challenge of our times to finally achieve. This week's speaker, Tim Shriver, Chairman of Special Olympics International, will share how his initiative, UNITE, is promoting national unity and solidarity across differences, and how each of us can be part of this new groundswell of change.
Seattle Rotary has a legacy of connecting with regional leaders of our Armed Forces. Today we will meet the senior shore-side leader of your Navy: Rear Admiral Stephen D. Barnett, Commander, Navy Region Northwest.
RDML Stephen Barnett is a native of Columbia, Tennessee. He is an alumnus of Tennessee State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a graduate of Troy State University in Alabama where he earned his Master of Business Administration.
One of the hallmarks of Rotary membership is joyful giving. We are blessed with generous members paving the way for our club to make a difference in people’s lives, and every donation makes a difference! Whether contributing to a myriad of local efforts addressing big challenges regarding housing, education, health, and the environment, as well as to international efforts to improve the quality of life for people in need, we have opportunities every year to make a difference.
As Seattle 4 Rotarians, we give on an annual basis as part of our membership commitment. We invite you to make two gifts that will have meaningful impact: the first is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF), and the second is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for your generosity – it is our combined commitment to attend, to serve, and to give that allows our club to make a difference in the world!

Volunteers Needed at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club
The Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club, under the leadership of Patrick Carter, has taken on the role of full-day academic support and childcare for the Seattle Public Schools. This means they need to ensure students are online and learning with their respective classrooms. What problem does online learning present? Without human touch and guidance, the students are having their share of struggles. Some of them still can’t read or are having problems with basic math. Unlike the kids who can stay at home, they don’t have a parent or guardian to step in and help them when they run into problems.
Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club needs volunteers to come down and help. The time slots 8:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 2:30 are available and all COVID-19 procedures are being followed. No reported cases have been identified during the past six months of operation at the club. Volunteers will need to complete a simple background check and follow the guidelines.
Learn more about the Rotary Boys & Girls Club ontheir website.
