Dr. Jane Tornatore: Peace of Mind and COVID-19

Everything has been canceled and we are in social isolation!  As Rotarians we are committed to helping the community. We are frustrated and want to do more than just stay at home. In order to help our communities, we must first achieve Peace of Mind for ourselves.  Join Dr. Jane Tornatore for an empowering discussion about managing your stress and anxiety during the COVID 19 Pandemic.

A fellow Rotarian, Dr. Tornatore has dedicated her career to helping people stop beating themselves up and be kinder to themselves and others. She will be sharing tips on managing stress and anxiety during these challenging times.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON THE PROGRAM PLAN AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH DUES

On Thursday, March 26th, our club board approved a discount of $100 per month for members on the program plan.  A credit of $200 was issued to those members on March 31 and will be applied to their April 1st and May 1st invoices.”

If you have been impacted by the State of Emergency and need further financial assistance with your membership dues, please contact Caroline at Caroline@SeattleRotary.org

If you would like to contribute your program plan discount to members in financial need, please contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org.

On behalf of our board and staff, thank you for your membership and stay safe!

PLEASE ASK FOR HELP!

Are you a member and at-risk for the coronavirus and would like help with grocery shopping, picking up pet supplies, or anything else that could put you at risk? There are lots of Rotary members who want to help and keep you safe.

All you have to do is:
  1. Complete the form request which has four questions:
    1. Name
    2. Phone number
    3. What you need help with (i.e. groceries)
    4. Your neighborhood (so volunteers can choose requests that are most convenient for them)
Once you submit the request, volunteers will receive an email and someone will contact you in a timely manner to lend you a hand.

DO YOU WANT TO HELP?

Member, Jonny Holz, is organizing volunteers.  Please contact him at jonny.holz@gmail.com, or go to the online sign-up by clicking HERE.

PHONING FOR FELLOWSHIP

Even though our meetings have moved online, individual connection with the wonderful members in our club is still important. To make that happen, Seattle 4 teams are picking up the phone, and calling members. So the next time your phone rings, don't be surprised it's a friendly Rotarian taking the opportunity to say hi and visit, (virtually).  Contact member, Alicia Flatt, at aliciaflatt@gmail.com, for more information.

CALL FOR MEMBERS TO SUBMIT INSPIRATIONAL VIDEOS AND PICTURES

Our leadership team is hard at work creating quality program content and opportunities for connection among members during these difficult times, and we need your help to make that happen! Members are invited to send in short videos (up to 2 minutes) or pictures sharing what you are doing to create moments of hope and joy in the midst of the pandemic. Are you delivering groceries for an elderly neighbor, donating blood, or singing in the streets with your neighbors? Send your videos or pictures of such acts of kindness and moments of connection to mariah@seattlerotary.org to be featured in an upcoming program or the newsletter.

Thanks for the Good News and Congratulations Jann and Kirk Greene!

Jann Curley and Kirk Greene met at Seattle 4 Rotary where they became friends and fell in love.  After their wedding ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus, they decided to get married on March 26th with their pastor and two good friends as witnesses—all socially-distanced of course.  Thanks Jann and Kirk for this uplifting news and may you find great happiness together!!

NORTHWEST HARVEST AND FOOD LIFELINE WORK PARTIES SUSPENDED

A Message from Harvest Against Hunger, a Program of Rotary District 5030

Our partners at Northwest Harvest and Food Lifeline have made the difficult decision to suspend all volunteer workparties at their warehouse facilities until further notice. Both organizations have been retooling their programs and services to accommodate new distribution models that will allow food banks across the community to more easily follow safe distancing protocols while serving an increasing number of clients. We will notify you when workparties resume.

Volunteers Still Needed at Local Foodbanks

Even though large-scale volunteer shifts have been cancelled, local foodbanks still need volunteer help to serve an increasing number of clients - including many who are requesting food for the first time. HAH staff has volunteered at several local foodbanks in the past weeks to confirm that they are taking steps to follow social distancing protocols and personal safety guidelines for staff, volunteers and clients. If you or your fellow Rotarians are interested in volunteering at a local food bank, please visit our COVID-19 Resource Page on the Harvest Against Hunger website to learn more and search for food banks near you.

The next time you’re at the grocery store stocking up your pantry, consider grabbing a few extra items to donate to Northwest Harvest.  Find a list of their public drop sites HERE.

Harvest Against Hunger, a program of our Rotary district, is working with our partners across Washington, including the Washington State Department of Agriculture, to develop plans and best practices for hunger relief efforts. To learn more and find out how you can get involved, visit the new COVID-19 Response page on the Harvest Against Hunger website.

Please consider a blood donation at Bloodworks Northwest. You can find guidelines for donating during the virus outbreak (most people are still eligible to donate!) and schedule an appointment HERE.
