Agents of Influence: A Game to Critically Evaluate Information

In the midst of the pandemic, co-founder of Alterea Inc., Anahita Dalmia, realized the frightening power that misinformation and fake news has on the younger generation. Anahita, a 3rd generation Rotarian originally from New Delhi, India, and a member of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach, CA, was inspired to develop 'Agents of Influence’ - a spy themed media literacy game aligned with the 4-Way test that equips middle school students with the necessary skills to critically evaluate information and make responsible, informed decisions.

President Beth opened the meeting at The Rainier Club on a smoky, foggy fall day.  Raymond Tymas-Jones and Ryan Bunbury led us in “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”  Bill Center inspired us by reminding us that even though life is not fair, an essential ingredient in productivity and success is something distributed fairly and equally to all: time.  The question is, “how do we spend our time? Time is precious, but we can share it with those in need of encouragement, help, and relief.”  He has never regretted the time he has invested in others…

Community Harvest Program

Join Harvest Against Hunger and our partners (and graduated Harvest VISTA site!) with the Community Harvest program at Upper Valley MEND on Saturday, October 22nd to help pick apples in a Cashmere, WA orchard. Our goal is to pick more than 18,000 pounds of apples in one day!

Duwamish River Tours with Maritime High School

Wednesday, October 26 & Thursday, October 27
Harbor Island Marina

To demonstrate what they’ve learned, the Maritime High School freshman class are designing boat-based tours of the Duwamish River to share the story of historic and current communities on the river.

The students will be presenting on - and operating - the vessel "Admiral Jack" with the assistance of a trained captain.

Tours will be held Wednesday, October 26 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM and Thursday, October 27 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

YRL Escape Room Event

This event will have limited capacity at either 8 people or 16 people, depending on demand we can do 1 or 2 rooms. Timing is either 5pm or 7pm depending on what works best for the group. We can plan to walk to Queen Anne Beer Hall before or after for some more socialization - anyone can join for this portion, no RSVP required.

Dia De Los Muertos Community Celebration

This is an informal committee gathering to encourage our members to celebrate and learn about our diverse community. Every year at SAM, Fulgencio Lazo and a team of local artists design a unique tapete (sand painting) to celebrate Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. Free with RSVP; for additional information, please contact Linda Lowry.

2023 Africa Malaria Tours
 

Thursday, February 9 - Thursday, February 16 2023 (Zambia) and Thursday, February 16 - Tuesday, February 21 2023 (Tanzania)

Join Seattle Rotary as we visit our malaria partners in Africa during this extensive two-part tour. Rotarians have the option of attending both tours or one of their choosing. The tours include all hotel accommodation, meals, beverages (beer and wine included), gratuities, airport/hotel transfers, ground transportation, and in-country flights between tour legs. Music4Life is a non-profit and project of Rotary District 5030 that distributes musical instruments to public school students in need. 

We welcome any gently used musical instruments you wish to donate. They can be delivered directly to these local music stores that are now open: American Music in  Phinney  Ridge and Kennelly Keys Music in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Everett.
