As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Thank you for taking action to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

Fighting the Permanence of Plastic: A Pacific Islands Cleanup Story
February 12th at Noon
Westin Hotel, 1900 5th Avenue
Plastic debris is accumulating in our oceans and impacting marine environments. Tessa Code saw this firsthand on a NOAA Marine Debris mission to the northwestern Hawaiian Islands in 2018. She and the team collected over 164,000 pounds of marine debris ranging from plastic bottles to large fishing nets. During her presentation she will give you a sense of her experience, what the project accomplished, and provide ideas for others to become less dependent on single-use plastics.
Tessa Code grew up in Seattle and graduated with a BS in biology from Santa Clara University. She has worked on research projects in Australia, Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, and Washington State. Currently, she studies fish populations with the Western Fisheries Research Center.
The Super Bowl this past Sunday didn’t mark the end of football season. With a “substantial amount of appetite for more football,” the relaunch of the XFL is at our doorstep, as shared by Ryan Gustafson, President of the Seattle Dragons, the newest professional sports franchise in town set to kickoff their home opener at CenturyLink Field on Saturday, February 15th.
Gustafson, who grew up in Bellevue, was invited to speak to Seattle 4 by Rotarian Mark Davis. He was formerly Vice President of Business Strategy and Development for Sounders FC, and has also worked for the Seattle Seahawks, the San Diego Padres and Major League Baseball. Now leading the Seattle Dragons, he shared his excitement about bringing more, authentic football to Seattle throughout the spring with a focus on fan engagement, accessibility, and rule innovations that both speed up the game and help to eliminate some of the violent plays in a focus on health and player safety.

Now is the time to become a member of the Seattle 4 Rotary Pinkham & Skeel Circle of Service!
Last week, Carl Behnke inspired us all by declaring a challenge gift for all members who have given $400 toward the campaign. If those members give an additional $300, Carl will match that additional amount and those members will become members of the Pinkham and Skeel Society (members who give $1,000 or more to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation). So if you have currently donated $400, and you increase your contribution to $700, Carl will match that gift with $300 more.
Join the parade of international flags at the upcoming Rotary Northwest President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) and hear from Rotary International President Elect Holger Knaack on Friday, February 21st. RSVP to Jimmy Collins ASAP. More details in Upcoming Events.
