Austin Allison
Co-founder/CEO of Pacaso
Breaking Industry Boundaries to Create a Completely New Category of Second Home Ownership
Pacaso, a service that helps people buy and own second homes, has broken records and changed the second home real estate industry through passion, innovation, and technology. To help make the dream of second homeownership possible for more people, Austin created an entirely new category of second home buying through co-ownership. Austin will be sharing his entrepreneurial journey, from his real estate start in Ohio to the launch and eventual sale of his last startup dotloop, to the incredible growth Pacaso has seen over the last year.
Austin launched Pacaso in October 2020 and by March 2021, he had successfully raised $90M over the course of two rounds of funding and became the fastest U.S. company to reach Unicorn designation (less than 6 months). Now, over a year later, the company is valued at $1.5 billion with total funding at $217 million.
Andrea Driessen’s TedX talk went viral one day after she described how Gracenotes engage the recipient and writer in meaningful ways; and how a simple note can help organizations and individuals be more effective, resilient, and empathetic. Although a Gracenote is a euphemism for ‘thank you note’, these simple communications can have long-lasting benefits.
“Why do we wait so long to talk about someone until they have died?” she began. “How do we honor those who are very much alive?”. She described how her dad reacted when she wrote his “living eulogy” as a repeatable tool for love and gratitude.
“We underestimate the impact of a Gracenote on the giver as well as the receiver,” she said. “Send a Gracenote to yourself via snail mail to gauge how your perspective changes…just the sense of holding the note as a receiver.” A Gracenote can be a written note, video, photo collage, PowerPoint deck…the medium, she continued, doesn’t’ matter as much as the doing.
Sea4 s are our newest Rotarians (joined 2019-2021). Pre-Covid monthly happy hours took place to allow new Rotarians to meet each other and learn about Rotary and how to make the best use of their membership. We are reviving this tradition and had hoped for an in-person event for January. However, in light of the latest surge, we are taking January's happy hour online. We hope this won't deter you from participating.
It will be a great opportunity to meet some club leadership as well as other new Rotarians in an informal setting. This month we will learn about the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). What is it? How does it impact the work Rotary Committees do? How can you help?
All Seattle #4 Rotarians are welcome to join in! We look forward to seeing you soon.
Our Rotary Cares team is ready to listen and to support you. One of the wonderful things about our club is that you have many friends --you just need to reach out to tap into our amazing network of caring people. Please contact our Rotary Cares Committee Co-Chairs are listed below to let us know how we can help.
