It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Paul Casey, classification Marketing and Public Relations, proposed by Pete DeLaunay and Doug Picha.

Paul was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and moved to Bellevue with his parents, arriving just before the Seattle World’s Fair opened in 1962. After graduating from Newport High School, Paul attended Washington State University, where he was student body president and graduated with a degree in political science and a minor in communications.

Paul proceeded to follow his political leanings, working for Dan Evans and Sam Reed. He later moved to Seattle, where the seeds of his communications career were planted. After working for several companies, including Seattle Metro, where he was public affairs director during the construction of the downtown bus tunnel, he took a year off to travel before joining the Alzheimer’s Association of Western Washington as executive director.

In 1999, Paul formed his communications consulting firm, Casey Communications Inc. His clients have included Microsoft, the Business Software Alliance, US West and AT&T, Alki Tours, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

For many years, Paul produced a newspaper targeted to seniors, entitled Voices of Experience. The newsletter later became a radio program of the same name that ran for six years on KIXI. The program focused on people who experienced real-life business success, not just theories about business. The shows are archived and still available on the KKNW radio station website.

Paul is also a noted author and business consultant. His book, Is Self Employment for You? is a useful guide for those considering starting their own business.

Paul met his wife, Marti, 21 years ago when he rented her his condominium. He confesses to breaking one of his own business consulting rules around mixing business and personal relationships, and invited her to go sailing … on Pete DeLaunay’s sailboat (unbeknownst to Pete at the time).  Good sport that he is, Pete agreed and the rest, as they say, is history.

Paul and Marti live in West Seattle with their two dogs, Puff and Sadie May. They are engaged in organizations they care about, including the Doney-Coe Clinic, where Paul has volunteered for the past three years, and the advisory board of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at WSU, which Paul chaired for two years.

After exploring Seattle Rotary membership several years ago and deferring because of his travel schedule, Paul now has the time to devote to Rotary and its mission of service above self.  In fact, he has already volunteered to help write the Totem newsletter.

Please join me in welcoming Paul Casey, classification Marketing and Public Relations, to the Rotary Club of Seattle.
