Meet new member, Jonathan Zetlmaier, classification: Financial Advising and Wealth Management. We can call him Jon for short, but some call him JZ for fun.

Although he graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Economics in 1997, Jon clearly appreciates philosophy.  On his Madrona Financial Group website, he quotes Helen Gurley Brown former editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine: Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort.

Jon Zetlmaier is very serious about money.  After a finance career in the stock market, banking, and retirement planning, Jon settled on a clear path to a fulfilling career.  Since 2011 he has owned Madrona Financial Group where today he manages $150 million in client assets.  His niche is providing independent thought, candid conversations, and unbiased advice to people with net assets between half a million and ten million dollars. He is a certified financial planner and holds too many other related licenses to list.

Raised in a solidly middle-class family where his dad worked construction and his mom was a teacher, he was ingrained with the importance of saving and working hard.  His family today includes his wife, Megan, whom he met at an Irish bar on St. Patrick’s Day. Their first date was Easter where he ordered rabbit to be funny.  Their son, Evan, is seven years old and captures Jon’s spare time with coaching baseball and soccer.  Jon started running and has completed seven marathons as a way to quit smoking. He is also an avid skier and skateboarder.  They live in West Seattle where Jon likes to host barbeques.

Jon Zetlmaier likes to educate people.  He once taught state employees about their pension system.  Visiting his website with its many videos, calculators and resources was an education for me.  When I asked Jon what other people are likely to say about him, he responded, that he has been told he’s an honest, good guy.   Not surprising for an Eagle Scout.  Ask him his faults, he’ll tell you he’s too direct.

John is a past president and chair of the Financial Association of Puget Sound.  He is a member of the Seattle Philanthropic Advisors Network and serves on the House Committee of the Washington Athletic Club.  John finds the polarization and negativity of today discouraging and is looking forward to his time in Rotary to provide an antidote with its positive mission and message. Please welcome Jon Zetlmaier, an honest, good guy.
