Environmental Sustainability Committee
Jun 22, 2022 11:00 AM

The Environmental Sustainability Committee has five primary goals:

  • EDUCATING - ourselves, our Rotary colleagues, and the public about how - and why - we should all conserve energy and resources, and adopt sustainable solutions.
  • DEMONSTRATING - the benefits to ourselves and future generations of a sustainable approach to business and living.
  • INNOVATING - with ideas promoted by our Rotary Club to switch to sustainable practices in all Rotary projects.
  • DONATING - to a Rotary Club project that offsets your unavoidable personal carbon emissions.
  • ADVOCATING- to our Rotary Club the importance of sustainability as the world wrestles with carbon emission reductions and other resource constraints.

We work to achieve these goals through educational, fellowship, service, and advocacy opportunities for Rotarians in our Club, our families, and the community.

Contact Eric Christensen to learn more and how to get involved.

Christine Gregoire, Hope Through Partnership

Westin Hotel and on Zoom

Jun 22, 2022 12:30 PM

Seattle is the economic engine of the region and beyond. Following the Great Recession, we led in recovery time and economic vitality. That’s what we can do when we come together in partnership to ensure the region is a great place to live, work and enjoy. Challenge Seattle has engaged and continues to engage in partnerships to address COVID, homelessness, housing affordability, climate and more. Make no mistake, we are in very challenging times but if we join the public, private and philanthropic sectors together, there’s not much we can’t accomplish. We need hope in our communities and that is best done through partnerships. Let's talk about it.

International Service Committee
Jul 20, 2022 10:30 AM
Serves to fulfill Rotary's mission of "advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace." The committee selects projects that positively impact the health, education, and welfare of less advantaged people in other countries, with a particular emphasis on youth. Actively works with clubs in our District and abroad to leverage — via matching grants — the amount of money available for a project. Members get involved through direct knowledge of the project or by volunteering. Prior focuses have included malaria projects in Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda; microcredit and water projects in India; de-mining projects in Vietnam and Lebanon; AIDS orphan support in South Africa and Ethiopia; education/literacy projects in Nepal, Chile, and Hungary; and more than a decade of wide-ranging projects in Russia.
Please contact Alicia Flatt for information on how to attend.

Kaj Pedersen, Redefining the Value of Rotary

Westin Hotel and on Zoom

Jul 27, 2022 12:30 PM

Zambia-born Pedersen is a software executive currently leading technology for AstrumU and has over 20 years of experience in venture creation. Pedersen found Rotary through his mother's fight with Polio, which she suffered through when Pedersen was a child. Rotary's ambitious work to eradicate Polio appealed to Pedersen and his personal goals towards service and growth, leading him to pursue leadership positions within the organization as Club President, AG, and, currently, as DGE for District 5030 Rotary. Kaj and his wife Claire have been married 25 years and have a son, Sebastian, who is studying for his honors degree in Game Design at Columbia College in Chicago.
