The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is visiting Seattle for the first time in its 20 year history. The biennial event is now in its tenth edition and is the world's biggest and longest ocean race. This year over 700 amateur crew will race over 40,000 nautical miles, led by professional skippers on twelve identical 70-foot yachts between 6 continents over eleven months. the race has proved to be a life-changing experience for crew but this is far from cliche. A range of programmes have taken people from challenging backgrounds and provided them with skills to not only change their own lives but also those of their communities, such as the sapinda Rainbow project in South Africa. The Clippe rRace is also partnering with its official charity, Unicef. 

To discuss the 'Life –Changing effect our panel is: Founder and chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world in 1968–9 will be joined by David Cusworth, Clipper Race Recruitment and Development Director and former crewmember, plus Unicef Clipper Race skipper, Martin Clough. The session will he introduced and chaired by Clipper Race Global Business and Communications Director Jonathan Levy.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is one of the world’s most celebrated sailors. One of just six inductees of the ISAF Hall of Fame, he has sailed around the world four times, once as the first to go solo, nonstop, and once setting the record for the fastest circumnavigation with Sir Peter Blake in 1994. He was knighted in 1995 in recognition of his global sailing achievements.

Not content with sailing the world himself, Sir Robin established the famous Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the only event of its kind which trains amateurs to become ocean racers.

Over the past twenty years, the Clipper Race has not only become one of the planet's toughest endurance challenges, but has also developed a strong reputation for showcasing brands and building international trade links between its partners and host destinations.
